Each release has a stable identifier, coverage statement, change log, known limitations, machine-readable manifest, and one bulk archive. Live APIs can evolve; release files do not.

Coverage boundary:Alaska's 30 Census county equivalents are present in the geography registry but unavailable as comparable county election totals. The platform does not manufacture a county crosswalk from Alaska election districts or precinct reporting units.
Historical geography: 2016 and 2020 rows resolve to the current canonical county-equivalent inventory. Connecticut official town rows are reproducibly aggregated to the nine planning-region county equivalents adopted by the Census Bureau in 2022; those derived current-geography rows are not historical county reporting units.

What changed

The release log describes user-visible data and contract changes, not just code changes.

  1. Completed canonical FIPS joins for every available county and county-equivalent presidential row in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
  2. Added permanent county profiles, national comparison APIs, confidence classifications, and a reproducible bulk release bundle.
  3. Preserved Alaska as source-unavailable county geography rather than manufacturing county totals from non-comparable reporting units.
Known limitations
  • Alaska reports election results through election districts and precinct/reporting units that do not provide a reviewed county-equivalent crosswalk for these years; its 30 Census county equivalents remain unavailable.
  • Maine UOCAVA and Rhode Island Federal Precincts are intentional non-geographic historical rows and are excluded from county comparisons.
  • Connecticut 2016 and 2020 values are derived current-geography aggregates from official town rows to the nine planning regions adopted as Census county equivalents in 2022; they are not totals reported by those planning regions in those elections.
  • Turnout, equipment, vote-method, advisory, and administrative context have different reporting grains and should not be assumed to cover every county.
